Great Elgg reference from Arck Interactive: World bank

It was a wonderful Friday here at Arck Interactive. We were officially approved as a development vendor for the World Bank. Starting next week, we’ll be developing custom social networking functionalty to improve the information architecture of their internal Elgg-based social network.

Everyone always asks what are the biggest or best known organisations using Elgg. World bank is the answer! That's a great reference for Elgg and Arck Interactive. Congrats!

How to Build Your Own Social Network with Elgg

Here's a short presentation about Elgg Framework from a technical perspective. Elgg is probably the best and easiest solution if you want to build your own custom social networking site, whether you're building a private site for your organisation or a public community with thousands of users.

From a developer's point of view Elgg is an excellent framework to work with. It's easy to extend using the effective plugin system and the Elgg API and datamodel make development easy and fast. Personally, I'm a big fan of Elgg and I've been working with it since the 1.0 version was released about two years ago.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or want to know more! Or head on to the Elgg Community for more information.

Elgg 1.6.2 cancelled, waiting for 1.7

Before getting to the developments for this week, I want to communicate some things that have been said on the mailing lists and community site but not announced to the general public. Elgg 1.7 replaces 1.6.2 as the next released version of Elgg. This decision was made because the changes required to fix some of the bugs are inappropriate for a bugfix release. The tentative date for 1.7 is the end of November.

I was really waiting for the bug fixes promised in 1.6.2 but I guess this is understandable. What I don't like is the fact that 1.6.2 was supposed to be released already at the end of September.
